Headquarters, Troops C. S.
near Pensacola, Fla.
27th August, 1861
Major,

By direction of the Genl Commdg, I enclose you a copy of a communication from the Governor of Louisiana, in response to the several appeals made to this office by the officers of your regiment, in regard to their relative rank. That decision is the only rule of conduct for the Commdg Genl, and he directs that you enforce it in your command. It is hoped the action of his Excellency will prove satisfactory to all parties and that the vexed question will no longer interfere with the harmony of your fine regiment.

I am, Sir,
Very respectfully
Your obt. servt.
