Mr. O. V. Dodge

Dear Sir

Pardon me for not writing to you before. I have had a great many to write to and at present I have no special news to write. We are all in usual health except Edgar you have probably heard that he was sick and was left at Baltimore as to camp life I must say it is a regular dog life but we are getting used to it. We have some joyous hours and some thoughtful ones. I think I know how things waged. I should not enlisted but I don’t let anything trouble me. I think the most of the boys would be glad to get back if they could get an honorable discharge but I can contend myself almost anywhere. As to war news you know more about it than I do. It is evident that the most of S.C. is in the possession of the Federal troops particularly the forts. Pennsylvania has 104 regiments in the field. Gen. Scott has gone to Europe it is true that he has resigned his office. Gen McClellan is in Washington. We have a very fine Col. As to the sick there is about 15 of our company on the slick list. Some company’s have 20. The Colonel will try to get us in barracks as soon as possible. I can not think of any thing so I will give you the directions and close please write soon.
