Dear Brother,
I now take my pen in hand to let you know that I am in good spirits and I hope that these few lines will find you in the same health. Our company has been consolidated together and we calculate to start between this time and Friday for Hempstead Long Island. I tell you John, I am tickled about it too. I feel just as happy as a pig in clover. John, I wish that you were here to enjoy the fun with us. The boys feel like colts. Let loose in the lots. Now you must give my best respects to all my inquiring friends. You must write to Father. One more of the southern states has turned for the union. By what I can learn I think that the beautiful colors will be seen floating in the breeze of peace and liberty. Direct your letters where this letter bids you. Direct it in the care of Captain William D. Campbell. I guess I shall have to close. I still remain your affectionate brother,
William E. Hutchinson
To John W. Hutchinson
So goodbye.
