Dear Mother and sister,

I will write a few lines this evening to let you know that I am well. Hoping you are the same. Further, we got our pay now and I sent 65 dollars to pay for mother and you. Which I think you will receive when you get this. I sent it off today by Express. Sixty-five dollars, then pay Ditty and all you owe. That is if the money will reach so that you have some left yet. If it ain’t enough then till Ditty I would pay him the balance the next payday. Don’t pay Martin Bachman for the corn that you got. Not until you have paid
Ditty and George Benjamin then let me know how much Ditty’s bill was. And then I will tell you whether you shall pay Bachman or not. I want you to have some money you and Mother. Anyway Bachman, he will wait until next payday. He told me so. We only got paid for 4 months and got no bounty or else I could pay all this time that we owe.

I will write a few lines more this morning. It is raining now Catherine. I sent to you 30 envelopes with my address on it. Please let me know whether you receive them. Mother, you please give Katterena five dollars of that money that I sent you. I did promise her that but then take good care of it and don’t spend it unnecessarily. And then I will send you some more the next payday. And the school teacher pay him also. I think you have to pay the Expressage on that money. I did not pay it. They did not say anything about it when I sent it off. Leiman Peifer was here yesterday. He went down to see his Brother Jacob so with this I will close for this time. Hoping to hear some from you. Please let me know whether you got the money when you answer this.

Write me soon Catherine.

With much affection, your brother,

George Aum

I can tell you money is plenty now with Uncle Sam’s boys. Get it while you are young.
