5 Civil War Letters and Documents war dated and pertaining to John P. McVean who was killed at the Wilderness and earned the Medal of Honor at Fredericksburg Heights, VA.

Two letters are written by McVean to his family. The remaining three documents provide testimony concerning McVean and his bravery while a member of the 49th New York Infantry. Two of these documents are signed by William Ellis who was wounded at Spotsylvania Court House where he was shot thru the body and arm by an enemy ramrod. The last document is signed by Major Brazee (Commanding the Regiment) and six additional officers.
