Dear Friends,

I take the pleasure of writing you a few lines that I am well at present and hope that these few lines now find you in the same good health. I received your kind letter last evening and was glad to hear from you and we are in the same old camp that we have been all winter. But I think that we will move as soon as the weather gets along and we will have a fight with the Rebels again.
And our regiment is put in as skirmishers and I don’t like that so well for the Rebels have some good sharpshooters, but I think that we can kill as many as they can. The weather is very wet here. Rains most every day.
I enlisted the 30th of January and I will be in service one year and two months now. I got my likeness taken and sent it on by mail and I think that you will get it.
No more at present
But write soon
Cornelius Smith
