Head Quarters Aquia Creek
1st Division 1st Army Corps
May 10th 1863

Dear Father,

Again I take the pleasant opportunity to inform you that I am still gaining, hoping by the time this small note reaches you, it will find you doing the same. It has all the appearances of being a pleasant day today. Quite a number of wounded soldiers arrived here yesterday. Daniel J. Herrnig is here on account of his not being able to march with the regiment. David Monroe is wounded in the hand. That is all the wounded from our company here.

They say our regiment is encamped near by White Oak Church. They have another report around here that those who are able to march have to be by their regiment by the 15th and those who are not able to march are to be sent to Washington. It is hopeful but rather doubtful that such will be the case.

I received a letter from you at home yesterday. I can tell you I am getting anxious again to hear from you. I write to you and home every morning, having nothing more of importance to inform you of at present. I will close for this morning.

Your affectionate son,
Jasper J. Westervelt
