Dear Cousin,

Yours of the 27th of December came at hand the other day which found me in good health. Hoping this may finds you the same. Cousin, I have no news worth naming at present. Charley and the rest of the boys are well. I was glad to receive a letter from your hand for it was the first since we left Munfordville. I would have been very glad to be at some of them parts last Christmas, but if nothing happens, I think I will see more pleasure next fall and winter than I did this past. I think if I get home again, I will try and stay there a while yet in the hearts of those who mourn thy vanished presence there shall be perpetual grief through days forlorn and daily tears at thoughts of those who seem near to me. I only think of the mournful time in which I have to pass, but I am in hopes the time will pass off happier than it has in the last 6 months. For if ever me suffered, we did. There is some talk of us getting to come home shortly. If we do, I can tell you more of warfare than I could write in a week and as I have not much time to write I will give no details our hardships this time. I will wait until I get to come home. I am thankful that my time is so near out I can begin to think of being a free man once more and enjoy the pleasures of home and we can pass off the time with more pleasure than we do at the present time. I am in hopes we can soon enjoy each other’s presence again. Tell my friends to write to me when they can make it convenient and I will answer all of their letters with the greatest of pleasure. I will close for this time. Excuse my short and badly written letter and write soon. I remain your loving cousin.
