Description

Original 1st Edition of the 3rd Michigan Infantry Regimental History, "Four Years Campaigning in the Army of the Potomac by Color Sergeant D. G. Crotty." Book was published in 1874 at Grand Rapids, MI. 207 pages all in excellent condition.

This book was the personal copy of Corporal Benjamin Morse of the 3rd & 5th Michigan Infantry (noted in period pencil).

While with the 3rd Michigan Infantry Morse was captured near Richmond, VA, July 1, 1862. He was then wounded at Groveton, VA, August 29, 1862. Again captured on May 2, 1863 at Chancellorsville, VA. Earned the Medal of Honor for action at Spotsylvania by capturing the colors of the 4th Georgia Light Artillery on May 12, 1864.
