Mrs. Susan L. Taylor

My Dear Madam

If it is not an imposition on your noble and generous character, I will be highly pleased and gratified if you will be so kind as to send me a small quantity of eatables along with Lieutenant Nicholson’s box; also a small sum of money. I have now been in prison about nine months, and have no means of communicating with my home and friends in the eastern portion of Kentucky - consequently, find myself in a destitute condition in many respects. With many wishes for your welfare and happiness, I will now close. Hoping that you will overlook this presumption on my part, and give the matter due consideration – which I feel confident you will. I remain with esteem & respect – Yours,

Able Pennington
Lt. 10th Ky. Cav.
