Mrs. Rovilla Kendall

My Dear Wife,

As I have an opportunity to send a letter by a friend going up to Cairo, I thought I would just say that I am enjoying good health and getting along just as well as I can.

I dream nearly every night of seeing you and it seems very hard that I am deprived of that pleasure. You will laugh when I tell you thing a dreamed you had a baby. And Mrs. Green wrote to Lieutenant Green that she was good for nine months. Lieutenant Green has received three letters from Mrs. Green. And I have not received one yet. I am really anxious and much disappointed in not getting a letter before now.

The order for our going down the Pass has been countermanded and we are now going down the river. The boats are here and we expect to start to Monroe, Louisiana.

I will hope to hear from you soon. Do, Pet, write to me often. For I shall die if you do not. I will write again soon. My love to all. Hoping to hear from you soon.

I remain your affectionate husband.
