Mrs. Susan L. Taylor

Dear Madam,

I again take the privilege of writing you. My object for so doing is to ascertain whether it is in your power to furnish me with an overcoat or not. That is if I can procure a permit from the Commander of this post. I can make out very well with the other clothing that I have. I am dependent upon my friends for such articles as will comfort me while a prisoner of war. I hope that I can soon return past favors to my friends after my release from prison. If you are willing and it be in your power to furnish me with an overcoat, you will please let me know soon. And I will try to get a permit and send to you. I’ve been in prison ten months and have never heard from home but one time. If I was where I could receive from home, I would not have to go to the painful task of asking my friends.

I am your obedient servant,

Lieutenant P. W. Nicholson
Company F
