General,
I send you by special express a letter just received from Colone McDonald. I was disposed to move with my regiment and Shoemaker’s Battery in the direction of Petersburg for prompt cooperation in any movement in that quarter. But in view of all that has occurred, I feel unwilling to take a step without your concurrence. I hope you will be able and will be disposed to resume the enterprise which was interrupted so not much more disappointment.
May I ask your instructions at the earlies practicable moment.
Very Respectfully,
Your Obedient Servant,
John B. Baldwin
