Description

Original Civil War soldier's letter. 2 pages written in period ink.

Camp Griffin Nov. 15th /61
Dear Sister

I take my pen in hand to answer your letter of October 29th. I am a little better now. I left the hospital on the 10th. We have received our pay again. It is raining today and rained all night. It is a disagreeable day today but does not rain hard. There was to have been a grand review today but on account of the rain, it does not go off.

You appear to be troubled about me. Well, now I want you to keep cool and trouble yourself about me for I shall be taken care of if not able to take care of myself and moreover, you need not answer this or write anymore letters until you hear from me again for there is a prospect of moving somewhere but do not know where. There is a report that we go to Fortress Monroe.

There was a man died in the hospital last night. He had the typhoid fever, I think.

Well, Addison I should like to drop into the lodge some night and see the bear dance. Well, how do they look as they get up there to read the proceedings and do up the business of the lodge? Well enough of this nonsense. You must all take care of yourselves. I will write when I get settled again if we move. If we do not, I will write again. So good by for the present.
From your Brother,

Wm. L. Bronson
