Original Civil War soldier's letter. 4 pages written in period ink.

Dear Parents

I now sit down to write a few lines to you to inform you that I am well and hope these few lines will find you the same. I sent 10 dollars home in my last letter. Did you get it? Please write and let me know. We are on a good camp ground but I don’t know how long we shall stay here. We have been here once before. There is plenty of cherries ad they are good. We get plenty of pies here. There is plenty peddlers here. I have just got an orange for my tent mate who is sick and I think he will be sent home. The weather is very warm here now. I have nothing more to write of any importance. I have got a dollar’s worth of post stamps.

Dear Father. I know what is the reason that you don’t send a few words when Ma writes. I should like to hear from you and don’t let any thing trouble you. I know you will hear to me this time and I will try to send more money home. You may think that I might send more than I have but a soldier must have some sweet meats, that is certain, and it costs a man almost a dollar to get a taste. There is nothing that a man can get short of 5 cts.

From your Son,
Frank Wallace

Dear Sister. I now take my pen in hand to write a few lines to you to let you know that I have not forgot you. I should like to write every day but I must content with now and then one. There has some of the boys run away. I feel thankful that my mind don’t run that way. I am going to stay and do my duty until my time is out and then I shall, or if I should live, I shall come home. There is some talk of moving but I don’t know and I have not much choice. If we are going to do anything, it is about time. We was at it, what is the reason that some of the relations don’t write? I should like to hear from friends if I have any and if I have not, it is all right. I have some here. I will now close for this time.

Dear Brother. I now take my pen in hand to write a few lines to you to let you know that I still think of you and hope you will be a good boy and do well. I have bet out 5 dollars till next payday for 6 dollars. I shall send 20 dollars home next payday if nothing happens more than I know of. I will now close for this time. Write soon. Goodby for this time.
