Dear Brother,

I will introduce you to 1st Sergeant Company M, 2nd Connecticut Volunteer Artillery. How do you do this eve? You will see by the date of this that I have changed my location since last I wrote. I moved Saturday, was transferred and promoted. Took the company out on inspection or rather dress parade Sunday for the 1st time. It rained a little shower and cheated them out of inspection. The officers made Major Ladd the paymaster, a present of a watch and chain, very nice. He made a speech but we could not hear him for the wind blew so and the line was so long. You will be surprised to hear I have left Company H. I am now under Captain E. W. Marsh and he is as good a fellow as I wish to be under. Dan is assigned to this company now and I guess will be 1st lieutenant in it. Also Ed Canfield is corporal in it. So you see Company H runs this company mostly. I have been very busy since I came here. Have found no time to write letters. But will be more at leisure when I get things straightened. Guess I shall like it very well. Captain and I set up till 12 last night to get track of all the men and make the report out right. It is now eleven and I must retire. Will write more particulars when I get time.

By the way, I have been looking for a letter from home all the week but in vain. We were paid off today. I had to go to H to get paid for I was mustered there as corporal. Next time I will get $20 per month. How is Henry and what do you think of him?

I am well. David Soule is sick. Has been for a day or two. My kind regards to all.

I am truly your brother,
Henry
