Dear Sir,
I have been authorized by Company B to request the appointment of Reverend O. D. Hibbard Chaplain for the 64th. Mr. H is an eloquent and enthusiastic man and would I have no doubt please the regiment. I would like to see him appointed very much if the post is vacant.
We had a meeting of the company yesterday and got 18 volunteers and today received several more applications. We have another drill tomorrow. Company B will be full tomorrow night I have no doubt. The men are unanimous in requesting their services to be tendered to the state.
If your time is not too much occupied, I would like to have you write me whether we shall take measures to uniform the new members or whether that will be done by the state? Whether the state pays for the drilling now being done? Whether we can say positively that we shall have a chance to go under our present organization?
Yours
James G. Johnson
P. S. If you can spare time, I wish you would come over here. Write us so that we can a meeting of the company.
