Seth Eastman's Forts

Description
After the Civil War the U.S. Army had troops stationed at more than 250 military installations spread across the North American continent. These posts varied in size from a few crude buildings on the western frontier to massive fortifications mounting hundreds of guns. In 1870 Congress commissioned Seth Eastman, a retired brevet brigadier general, to produce a series of paintings for the House Military Affairs Committee.
In 1992, The Center of Military History for the United States Army published a set of ten prints representing the paintings of Army Forts by Seth Eastman. The above print is from that set. The print measures 16 x 20 inches.
