Mr. T. H. Ferguson
Dear Sir,
I thought the solicitations of friends been encouraged to write you a few lines and I truly hope you will not treat my note with silent contempt. Because, I am a prisoner of war and in needy circumstances and I ask you to send me some chewing tobacco and a few postage stamps. I have no money and can’t possibly gent any. I shall remember you thereafter and amply repay you if opportunity ever affords. You can direct to me, Ward 38, Barracks Number 3, Elmira, NY. A few books will be very acceptable for I get so lonesome living a prison life. I always have the blues. Hoping to hear from you soon.
I am Very Respectfully,
Your Obedient Servant,
David Kingsolver
