This day personally appeared before me an acting Justice of the Peace for said State and County, J. H. Daniel who made oath according to law that he was during the month of July 1864, the Wagon Master of Major H. T. Massengale, Post Quartermaster at Atlanta, Georgia. That he left Atlanta in charge of Major Massengale's public wagons and mules on the 22nd July 1864. That he had in his possession thirty three neck collars, the property of the C.S., that he was compelled to use them in securing the mules at night having no lot or enclosure and that they were destroyed by the mules on the march from Atlanta to Macon and that it was not from any carelessness on his part or the part of Major H. T. Massengale, but unavoidable.
