Charleston

September 20th 1863

My dear wife,

We got here at 10 last night. I had a good night’s rest and find great elegance as well as comfort at the Mill’s House. General Beauregard eats here. I called on him this morning and have just returned from a long interview. He is pleasant and I am contented.

We are about to ride out to select a camping ground between Charleston and the Stono. I will write to you more fully this evening or tomorrow. I am very well and may God bless you.
