Description

Original Civil War document written in period ink.

City Point, Virginia

April 29th 1865

Lieutenant,

Enclosed I send you your Inspection Reports. I have corrected your receipt of C.C. and G.E. It now reads 216 Boots instead of 250. You did not give me credit for grain by 15,000 pounds. I send you the Invoice. Also, I enclose Invoice to St. Jewell for grain. I will be much obliged if you will return receipt at your earliest convenience.

I enclose invoices and receipt of C.C. and G.E. and Q.M. Stores issued to Lieutenant Treiss. The Sergeant will sign his name. I wish you would get all receipts due me in January from Treiss. The Sergeant said he would make them out and send them to me. But he has not done so I will be much obliged if you will urge the Sergeant to attend to this. Treiss was not captured when these stores were issued.

Tell Jewell to turn in the receipt and other articles and send the receipts to me as soon as he can.

I also enclose invoices of clothing issued to teamsters in Brigade Train.

Very Respectfully Your Obedient Servant,

Thomas Ballard
Captain and A.A.Q.M.
Per Swartz, Clerk

Lieutenant D. M. McNaughton
R.Q.M.
7th Michigan Cavalry

Note:

I also enclose a voucher in. I wish you would give it to Dan and have him sign it and be sworn before a justice of the peace and return it very soon.
