Camp 5th Maryland Volunteers
April 20th 1865
Sir,
I have the honor to request that you send information concerning Private Thomas Hays, Company G, 5th Maryland Volunteers. He left the regiment some time in October and returned to duty in March during which time he was reported as a deserter and dropped form the rolls. He states that he was in hospital at Point of Rocks VA during that period and it was impossible for him to draw pay for that time without a certificate from the surgeon in charge. Hoping it will be attended to at your earliest convenience.
I am Sir,
Very Respectfully Your Obedient Servant,
Solomon S. Thompson
Captain, Company G, 5th Maryland
3rd Division, 24th Army Corps
To the Surgeon In Charge
