February 14th 1863

My Dear Major,

I received your letter this morning and having a few spare minutes, will briefly reply. I cannot tell you what the prospect is for getting Colt’s Carbines for your Battalion. I have been at work trying to get arms for the Cavalry in this Department all winter long. But as yet, have succeeded in getting nothing.

There may be better success hereafter. If so, I will inform you. I am sorry our friend Miss Fannie is about remaining so far away. But we must submit – Time changes all things.
