May 14, 1861

Dear Father,

A beautiful day rather close early this morning threatening to rain but now cleared up and is one of those summer days that make strawberries ripen.

We have got a new room in which there are to be 12. And we are very busy indeed fitting it up today. So I will not be able to write much. I have also to look out for our rations which are to be served out in a few minutes. I will try and write this evening.
