Chattanooga

October 25th 1864

Dear Sister,

I thought I would write a few lines to let you know that I am well at present and hope you are the same. We are here at Chattanooga. Yet but do not expect to be here more than a day or two. But we may stay a week. We have been expecting to go every day for a week. Mr. Blodget enlisted since I did and he has been to the regiment some two or three weeks. He is here now. He came here from Atlanta yesterday to guard Rebel Prisoners. There was about fifteen hundred Rebel Prisoners that came here yesterday and they was the hardest looking set that I ever seen. They were dressed in all kinds of clothing. Some of them had no hats or shoes. Well, what clothing they had was ragged and dirty as the ground. Mr. Blodget says that all the hopes the Rebs has is on the election. He says that if McClellan is elected, that they think they will have better times. But if “Old Abe” is elected, they will have to give up. Well, I guess they will have to give up pretty soon then. For I guess that he will. For there is not one soldier to fifty but will vote for him.

Well, Clarissa, you and all the rest of our folks thought that I would be homesick, but I have not seen anything of it yet. It has not made me very poor. When I started from home, I weighed one hundred and forty-five and now I weigh one hundred and fifty-six and a half, dressed just the same.

Well Clarissa I have written a good many letters since I started from home, but have not had no answer. Now, I want you to write as soon as you get this and tell all the rest of our folks to write. George sends his best respects to you. Well, as I cannot think of anything more to write, I must close, so good morning.

This is from your Brother,

Robert Moore
