Dear Wife,
In remembrance of you, I embrace the present opportunity of a few leisure moments to inform you I am enjoying excellent health. And hope these few lines may find you the same. I have felt more today like home to spend a few days than any time since I left. As the weather is so very pleasant here and I presume it would be much more pleasant there. And at the same time, from what information I can obtain from headquarters, that we will retain our present position some time, probably one month. I will assure you the location we occupy at present is much more desirable than anyone we have occupied previously. I presume you are aware that our resources are limited in obtaining news. So, I shall have to close by sending my best respects to all inquiring friends. I expect we will receive one month’s pay on Wednesday of this week. You will hear form me again then.
Give my respects to Mr. Pound.
I remain yours, affectionately,
Lieutenant L. C. Spencer
