Group consist of 18 Civil War period soldier letters written by Corporal James J. Bolestridge of the 23rd Pennsylvania Infantry - Birney's Zouaves. The bulk of the letters are dated 1861 & 1862 with (1) dated 1863 and (1) dated 1864. Also included are (6) partial letters from James and (11) letters written to James by his mother.

Regimental History for the 23rd Pennsylvania Infantry list James wounded at Fair Oaks and twice wounded at Cold Harbor.
