I take this opportunity to inform you that I am in good health at present hoping that these few lines will find you enjoying the same.
I received the papers you was kind enough to send me and I’m expecting a letter from you in answer to one I wrote you some time since. But I suppose you were so busy with the fair that you had quite forgotten the soldiers.
The boys are all in good health at present and join me in sending their respects to you. I suppose you have seen Sergeant Frank Biggart and this time as he said he would call on you.
Captain Snyder the captain of our company is home on recruiting service and he has enlisted a recruit for his own special benefit. His time will not expire in three years. I believe he is a little ahead of the times I think as it took two ministers to marry him.
You will see a notice of his marriage in the Troy Times of the 12th.
Patrick Farrell expects to go home on the next boat that leaves here for New York.
Sergeant Grey will go home when Farrell returns. I think I have sent you the New South that is printed at Hilton Head the headquarters of the Department and it will inform you what is going on here at present but as I have not heard from you, I do not know as you have received it but I intend to send you another by the next mail. I would have sent you one by this mail but the paper has not arrived at camp yet, but I will forward as soon as they do.
Please give my regards to all inquiring friends and to James and tell him I have written to him but I have not received any answers from him yet.
As I have not any news of any importance worth mentioning I will close, by hoping to hear from you soon and believe me I remain
Yours
Cpl. Murphy
