Dear Friend,

George, I now sit down for the purpose of answering your letter which I received and was glad to hear from you and as I was setting alone in the dead of night, I thought I would write some to you and let you know that some to you and let you know that I am all good and fat as a goose or hog, tough as a bear, black as a n****r and as saucy as ever. So you can guess I haven’t been very sick. George you ought to come down here. I should like to see you. It seems so very long since I have seen you I have forgotten how you look. I should like to be there and help you with your cows. Or not the cows exactly but the herd. The girl you told me about I guess that both of us could keep her busy cooking, couldn’t we. But sorry I’m not there to help you.

Do your very best to write a little about home and Sam or Ellis or rather if they are both mad at me. But how goes with that new house. Think you and Louise would get in there soon. I haven’t any news to write this time. I would if I could. But George, Burt is as green as a leaf but he was fairly well, down once but he is all right now. But I must close soon.

George, next time you write, milk a little from the herd, spill on the paper so I can take a smell of it. But I must stop such talk. Excuse my writing for I am in a hurry. So good bye. Direct as before. This from your old friend, to George Warner.
