My Dear Friend,
Your favor of 23rd September last came to hand yesterday. It was the first letter I received since I left Libby Prison May last. I wrote several times from Macon, GA, etc., which letters must have been miscarried. I wrote to my regiment on Folly Island for clothing, etc. I am expecting the arrival of a box from that quarters with great anxiety. In case of its non-arrival soon, I shall have to take your kindness once more as in all probability we shall have to pass the coming winter in the Confederacy. Lieutenant Wasehow [VonWintushausen] is with me and in good health. He wrote some time ago to his wife from Charleston. I continue in good health and sincerely hope your family is enjoying the same. Give my regards to your entire family and friends.
Yours truly,
G. Veltfort
