Nicholville, NY
August 27 1863

Sister Jane,

It is with a trembling hand that I attempt to pen a few lines to let you know that I am still alive, though not very well. I have had the ague which is not very pleasant. That is broke on me now. But I am weak yet and my hand trembles yet. But I am gaining. Warner is well. The regiment moved from here day before yesterday. Our Commanding Officer left the Captain, 2 Lieutenants and 20 men back sick. They marched with ten men and three sergeants. One man died from our company the day they left. There aren’t anymore of the boys very sick now. I guess that they will all get along now. I feel pretty well now but I ain’t in any hurry to march yet. I have learned to play old soldier a little but there is lots of men in the company that can beat me. There is no news to tell you. So I may as well close. Write and tell me how all the people get along.

Tell Celim that he must let them gals alone. I want some of them when I get back. Tell Hy that Warner will be big enough to rub his cars when he gets back.

That is all this time.
