Dear brother,

It is with greatest of pleasure that I take my pen in hand to let you know that I am well at present and hope these few lines come to hand will find you enjoying the same health at present. I received your letter on the 20th of last month and was glad to hear from you once more. I sent William home. I heard yesterday that he got home safe and sound and I want you [to] try and keep him there now.

Tell Still Torrey to write to me and Dock Gump to write to me. Write and tell me how the draft run up there. They enroll five thousand here yesterday of the city. Gent with the mustache on. You bet the tears shed from them. But I had to loath to see the soldiers march them under guard by the joint of the bayonet.

So no more for this time. Excuse my bad writing if you please.
