Dear Father,
It is with pleasure that I take my pen in hand to let you know that I am well and I hope these few lines will find you the same. I got through alright. My arm is worse than it was when I left home.
They are examining the hospital and sending some off to the front and some home. They are putting in to the Invalid Corps and those they are discharging. I rather think that they will put me into the Invalid Corps or at least I shall try and get there.
Same rate as other, I should like to have you send me some postage stamps. I should have had money enough if I had not had some spare money just on me at Detroit. I had four dollars of it but I bought a pair of gloves off a fellow for one dollar of it before I knew it was four. But I shall get rid of it if I am sent to the front. If you had rather send me a dollar, you can send that and not send the postages tamps. You can do as you wish about it. I don’t expect to get paid till next month.
There is only two men belonging to my regiment left in the hospital. They have been sent to the front since I came home. I felt a little homesick the next day after I got back here to the hospital. But I have got over that. Know so that I feel alright. Tell George that I can’t send him any shirts yet. Not till after pay day. Then I think that I can send him some.
Well I can’t think of any more to write. So I will close. Write as soon as you get this. Direct to Satterlee Hospital, Ward B, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
From your Son,
Franklin Thayer
