My ever love Georgie,
It is rainy and dismal today and as I do not like anything of that sort, I naturally turn to something bright and lovely. So I take a look at your picture then sit down to write a letter to you. I hope I shall not be interrupted but I have two or three times so far. We are under orders to move again. But I think it only in case the enemy move or attack us. We progress slowly with our houses. They will probably be finished just in time to leave them again. I enclose a picture. Don’t be frightened my pet, in finding four savage warriors facing you they are harmless. The officer sitting is Captain DuBois. (Permit me to introduce them). The center one standing is our Provost Marshal Lt. Schoff. The two remaining gentlemen are Captain Sommerhayes (my tent mate), and somebody that shall be nameless. I leave it to your own loving heart to find out. Now my darling, how is that fair? I hope you are entirely relieved by this time and that you are enjoying yourself and very happy, but not quite as happy as if I was with you. Captain Parson’s is in the next tent writing a letter to his Sadie. We are intending to have our pictures taken together, which I will send to you if you would like it. Shall I? What encouraging news we are having now? I wish the rebels would lay down their arms and stop the war. I should feel much better to go home that way than to leave so many friends down here fighting while I am at home in ease and comfort. However, go I must next August. I cannot stay away from my darling any longer, even for my country. Good night my dearest Georgie, I must go to work. I have much to do before going to bed. I send many kisses here and the love of my whole heart. God Bless You Dear,
Yours ever always,
Fred
