Friend Hilton,
Today I received two letters from my wife. One mailed the 11th and the other the 12th of February. The one of the 11th informs me of a request you made her. The other attempted to dissuade me from accepting your proposal. If successful by presenting the dangers I must encounter. But after having been in the front ranks in 14 battles and several skirmishes, I have learned to look upon danger almost with contempt. For answering your request I would say that my life is devoted to my country in this hour of her need. My sympathies are with the downtrodden and oppressed and to know that I am instrumental in any degree in enabling the African race to secure their independence is a proud legacy I would bequeath my children. And in whatever position I may be placed, God grant that I may perform it well.
By energy and perseverance, but above all an implicit confidence in Him, who holds the lasting of nations in his hands, we shall yet triumph and my beloved country be free from the oppressors gods? May God hasten the day. With assurance of high esteem for all who shall interest themselves for me and my dear family, I subscribe myself your friend.
Respectfully Yours,
Moses H. Gale
P. S. Excuse this as it was written upon my knee.
