Camp of the 93rd R. P. Volunteers
Camp near Falmouth Bay

April 6, 1863

Father and All,

It being now to my reckoning about a week since I last wrote to you and was awaiting a reply daily, but as yet none has come for some time, at least for the last week.

The troops here were reviewed three times last week and today about 20,000 cavalry were reviewed by President Lincoln and his son, and tomorrow about 200 regiments of infantry will be reviewed by Old Abe which I presume will be a very pleasant sight. The troops here are in a most delightful condition, in splendid order and well discipline. Such an army cannot be compared. However, remember Old Joe Hooker is at the head of it. He has the soldiers well fed up with soft bread. They have such confidence in him. He is the Old Fighting Joe, and the troops are well pleased with him.

By the heading of my letters, you will perceive that we are still at the old place. However, some indications of a movement, although so many rumors are afloat that a person cannot rely on any.

As regards to my occupation, I will only make a few more trips with the team and then I will stay in the shop. I am giving up my job and will go in the shop as Harry Seidel is going home and then I am to stay in the establishment. It is more pleasant than driving the team. However, I have served as driver through the worst of the seasons.

I am well and so is Jake and Captain Long with the exception of he sprained his one leg.

I am going to the landing tomorrow. Must conclude by requesting an early answer and if you get to see A. H. Albert, tell him to answer my letter.

My kind regards to you all. Write soon.

From your ever affectionate son.
