Dear Father,
I take my pen in hand to let you know that I am well at present and hope these few lines will find you the same. I received a letter from you last night and I was glad to hear from you. I have got about forty more days to stay out here in the army if nothing happens to me. There is a review today they say but I guess it will rain today. I expect to see one more battle before I get home but I hope not. I can’t write much this time. The drums are beating for guard mounting. I can’t write much in this letter but I will write more in the next one that I write to you. This is from your true friend in the army.
Charles Henry Angell.
Please write as often as you can and I will do the same. You say that you have wrote three or four letters and Aunt got my answer from me yet I have answered all the letters that I have got from you. I can’t write any more at present.
