Dear Mary,
Yours of the 13th just arrived last night. I read two lines at the top and three at the end. And thinking it was all politics, I consigned the whole thing to the flames. Politics is at a discount in the Army. (The female kind is especially so with me). And the quickest way for a man to get kicked out of any camp is for him to commence talking such trash. I just saw at the end of your letter that Miss Mattie had answered my epistle. That is the first intimation I have had of such a thing; although, I have looked anxiously for it every day for ten days. But I have been bitterly disappointed. I think you must have given her the wrong address. If her Mother says she has written, of course she has, for who should know better than her Mama. My old lady knows everything I do. I may be home for election and can then vote for you and myself too. Everything is quiet along our lines and there has been no change of any importance for some time. French has gotten a furlough for twenty days. Give my best respects to him if he calls on you.
No more time this morning. Love to Mother, Mrs. Stebbens, etc..
Thine,
Isaac (Doolittle)
