My Dear Wife,
I arrived here today and have been examined. The Surgeon says he will have to discharge me as unfit for service. He says I have been very fortunate to save my leg. I could go into the Invalid Corps, but I do not like the style. I can join it here after if I wish. The Surgeon thinks I had better get well. I shall go home as soon as my discharge comes.
I stopped an hour at Bridgewater as I went along. Nate and Cal are well. But I don’t think they will go down this summer. They are fixing the house.
Take good care of the money as we shall need it before I get into business. I will write if I don’t come in a few days.
Kiss Sis and Bub for me. Send word to Burnham that he can have the pistol as soon as I get home.
Truly yours,
A. Goldermann
