My Dear Wife,

I received two letters from you on Sunday last and was very sorry to hear of your illness but I hope that when you receive this you will have fully recovered to your usual good health. I am now in the enjoyment of very good health and have been for some time past. As you no doubt already know, I received the box you sent me all right. As you will have perceived by the reading of this letter, we have left Edisto Island and are back again in our old camp at Hilton Head but we do not expect to remain here but a few days as we are only waiting for transportation to take us northward as far as Fortress Monroe in Virginia if not as far as Annapolis, MD and you need not write to me or send me anything until you shall have heard from me again. I would like very much of you would put Liz to the tailoring trade this fall as I think she is quite old enough to go to a trade now. You must tell Wally that I will write him a letter after we get moved and fixed and if Rob has no work I want you to send him to a school as he cannot spend his time in any better way. I received a very kind letter from Mrs. Carnyn at the same time that I received the two from you and was very glad to hear from her and I will try and answer it after we get moved. I also forgot to state that I received the thread and heel ball you sent me. I will now bring my letter to a close by sending my love to you and all the family and my respects to all friends and I will try and write you more next time so no more from

Your Husband,
Jacob V. Shaner
