Dear Sister Holedah,

We have just got back to headquarters and I thought I would drop you a few lines. As I have nothing to do this afternoon. Although I cannot say that I feel much like writing. As I was on guard all last night and I feel very sleep. When I got here I found Billy. He got here from Washington last night. He is well and fat as you please. I don’t know when I ever saw him looking better than he does now. And I think that if he is careful and takes good care of himself, he will be tough. Now my health remains good as usual and hope this may find you all enjoying the same blessing. I wish that all might enjoy the same good health that I have since I have been in the service. I have not been what you might call sick since I left Elmira and that is saying a good deal. I have had nary a poor spells but of short duration.

Well Holedah, you must not think bad of me for not writing more frequently then what I have lately. Although I cannot account for you not getting my letters. As I have written a good many more letters than what you have seen of late. Your letters while Rachel is there, I shall not write as often and perhaps not to you as private. For while I write to her I write to all. As I never was one among private when I wrote you. Even then expect one for the group. Billy sends his love to you and all who may come to inquire. Tell George to keep up a stiff upper lip. And he will come out all right after it all. Kiss the children for me. You will excuse this short letter as I want to send it out by mail this evening. Hoping I may hear from you again soon.

I remain as ever your Brother,

J. C. Arnold
