Friend William,
As I have nothing to do this morning, I will try and scribble a few lines to you. I presume you would like to hear from Park; how he is getting along, is he well, he gets along finely. I like nursing pretty well. Better than I anticipated. I am still here at City Point. I expect to stay here a long while. I hope I shall serve my time out here. Nursing isn’t the pleasantest thing. Some parts of it is easy and some parts very hard. Especially when there is quite a lot of wounded in. I haven’t got any now. All sick. I have 17 sick patients in my ward. Three of them from my own regiment. We don’t have a lot of sick and wounded a day or two ago. I hope they will send more soon. I presume they will have some more wounded men here in a day or two. I understand the 9th Corps has been fighting lately. The 11th Regiment was not in the fight. I am glad of it. I shan’t have the poor boys to take care of. Oh Billie, our Colonel is just back in the regiment. Came back yesterday. He had the papers from the Governor to take the regiments home. They are going the first of September. I think I shall go if nothing happens. I shall try and come see you if possible.
I want to go soon and send my correspondence. I have got quite a number of letters.
Well Billie, I think I have written all the news there is going. Therefore, I will bring it to a close. I have written this in an awful hurry, you see. Please excuse mistakes, etc. Give my love to all the folks. My surprise to Nellie.
Please write soon.
