Description
The Sanitary Reporter, 8 pages
Folio printed sheet, 9 ½ by 12 inches in size, folded to make 8 pages.
An issue of this rare newspaper which acted as an organ of the U.S. Sanitary Commission during the Civil War. The USSC (1861-78) was a civilian organization authorized by the US Government to provide medical and sanitary assistance to the Union volunteer forces during the Civil War.
This newspaper was issued as "The Sanitary Bulletin" in the East and "The Sanitary Reporter" in the West and was vitally important in keeping the public aware of the Sanitary Commission's work. This issue, issued from Louisville, Kentucky, has articles on condition of the Army of the Cumberland, Dr. Hamilton’s military surgery, letters from Dr. Woodward, and much more. This is a good copy. Scarce.
