Colonel Goodner
Dear Sir,
My brother-in-law, George A. Connelly, a private in Captain Norris’ Company of your Regiment, near here was severely wounded in the head in the fight before Richmond.
We are very anxious about him. Therefore, you will, I hope, excuse the liberty I take in addressing you and of asking the favor, if he is alive to hand this to him. If not, to inform us by letter soon as possible. As his mother and sister (my wife) are very anxious in regard to him.
Hoping you will attend to the matter soon, for which we shall be ever grateful. I remain,
Yours Truly,
E. B. Clapp
