Dear friend,
I received your kind note of June 14th in regard to Captain Fancher. I am sorry that I told him to send to you for anything. You being so kind to so many of us. But destitute at that time I venture to ask him to send to you for some clothing. But since he has received some. We are not allowed to secure clothing when we have one suit. Consequently, you had not better send them. He says he has a suit but if convenient, please send 3 overshirts, 2 pair socks, 1 pocket handkerchief, 1 carpet bag. The box sent containing the materials all come up safe for which they are under many obligations to you. Also, the edibles were very nice.
You are very kind of person. And we long to get our liberty. I must close by asking to hear from you.
Your true friend,
Lieutenant J. R. Chambers
