Dear Friend Ernest,
I have come to the conclusion after much deliberation to impose on you a few lines. Mr. E. Bremerton arrived here today having as he says been captured on picket. We are all very well and have kept pretty well since we arrived here. How is poor Lew? Ned says he is disabled. So you are not only B. but have lost your teeth. You will have to get Hugh to chew your food for you. Give my respects to everybody in both companies especially to Pete, Hugh and Lew. All the boys wish to be remembered. I hear pretty frequently from Natchez no news. I hope you will get this. Write soon. From your friend.
