My Dear Madame,
I regret very much the necessity which has forced me to play the beggar. But I have been a prisoner a great while and have never received but very little assistance since my imprisonment. As Christmas is approaching, we are very desirous of obtaining a few articles which may serve to remind us of happier days. I have heard you very highly spoken of by friends and concluded to ask you for a small remittance. If you can send me a small amount. I assure you the favor will be duly appreciated and will not be forgotten when more fortunately situated. I would not make this appeal were I not in very needy circumstances.
Truly your Friend,
W. F. Robbins
