Original Civil War Confederate POW letter. 1 page, written in period ink.

Fort Delaware
May 19th 1864

Dear Friend,

Allow me to return to you and Mrs. Abert my kindest regards for your generosity. I received yesterday the articles you sent me and was very much pleased with them. I see in your letter that you are still willing to assist us. I need some money at this time to pay for the washing of my clothes. The wound which I received in my arm disables me so that I cannot wash for myself. I wish to make a draw on you for ten dollars if you can conveniently furnish it. You will oblige me very much.

Very respectfully yours, etc.,

Capta William C. Nutt

P.S. If you furnish the money, I will refund it as soon as circumstances will admit.

Wm. C. N.
