Dear Sister,
Your kind and welcome letter from the 27th of April I received and was glad to hear from you. I was going to write an answer right the way but as we came on guard, we had no time till today. You was telling me about a big secesh that came in your neighborhood, I wish I was there to shoot him and would be only fun.
I do not care as Mary answers me any more letters or not. And I do not think we will come home in a good while yet, to see how things are getting along at home. I can remember the baby’s name now.
My birthday passed without much noise. As I was on guard on one place and Wetzel about ½ of one another and we did not see one another all day. I sent on the envelope the Express hounding for Buragarde. No more at present. Hoping these few lines will find you as healthy as I am.
I remain by sending my best respects to all of my friends.
Your affectionate Brother,
Henry Berwick
